Lekha was a senior human resources manager who had been working at her company for over eight years. She used to love her job, but lately, she felt something was missing. She couldn’t find the joy she once had.
Over the last few years, Lekha had slowly given up on most of the things she once loved. She had stopped reading, painting and some other hobbies. The hardest loss had been running. For years, Lekha had been a keen runner. She loved the thrill of training for marathons and crossing the finish line. But as her job and family responsibilities grew, her personal time for running decreased. Her running shoes were now forgotten in a corner.
One Saturday, while shopping, Lekha ran into an old college friend, Geetha. After chatting for a few minutes, Geetha realised Lekha wasn’t her usual cheerful self and asked what was wrong.
Lekha sighed, “I don’t know... I just feel stuck. I used to be so excited about work and everything, but now it feels heavy. I’m always tired and I don’t even have the energy to do the things I used to love.”
Geetha’s face softened; she understood her friend’s situation. “Remember when you used to run marathons? You loved the rush of the race, the energy. You were always so full of life after a good run.”
Lekha’s face brightened when she heard that. “Yeah, I used to run a lot. It was a great way to clear my head. But with the kids, work and everything else, I just cannot anymore.”
Geetha was gentle but firm. “Life can get overwhelming. But just because we have careers and families doesn’t mean we should stop doing the things that make us feel alive. We’re not just mothers or employees, you know? We’re people too. You have to make time for the things you love,” she said.
Then she suggested that Lekha join a running group to help her get back into running and rediscover her passion. Lekha felt a spark of hope and decided to take Geetha’s advice. That night, she looked up running groups on social media and signed up for one.
The next day, Lekha went to her first running group meeting.
On the day of the half marathon, Lekha stood at the starting line.
